A free GOV.UK service. It tells most government departments at once, including HMRC, DWP, DVLA, the Passport Office and the council. Use the reference number the registrar gives you.

Before you get in touch

You can tell JD Williams by calling customer services or through the chat on their website. Have the date the person passed away, and their account number if it's on a statement. If not, they can find the account from the person's name, address and postcode. They will stop all mailings, though this can take up to six weeks.

Other investments, credit and credit files

Most of the time this takes goes on working out what the person had and who to call. When you are ready, Inherit Vault is where you can write that down for your own family, kept private until it is needed.
