A free GOV.UK service. It tells most government departments at once, including HMRC, DWP, DVLA, the Passport Office and the council. Use the reference number the registrar gives you.

Before you get in touch

Costco has no special process for when someone passes away, so the best route is Central Membership or the membership desk at any Costco warehouse. Have the membership number and the person's name ready. Costco refunds a membership fee in full when it is cancelled at a warehouse membership counter, so it is worth asking about a refund.
