A free GOV.UK service. It tells most government departments at once, including HMRC, DWP, DVLA, the Passport Office and the council. Use the reference number the registrar gives you.

Before you get in touch

BT can close the account or move it into someone else's name. They do not need to see the death certificate. Have the account number or BT phone number ready.
