A free GOV.UK service. It tells most government departments at once, including HMRC, DWP, DVLA, the Passport Office and the council. Use the reference number the registrar gives you.

Before you get in touch

Monzo's help pages point to the online form and email first, so start there. A Life Events team deals with it. If there is more than £100 in the account, they need an indemnity form.

Other banks

Most of the time this takes goes on working out what the person had and who to call. When you are ready, Inherit Vault is where you can write that down for your own family, kept private until it is needed.
