Before you get in touch

Call 01902 696000 or email taxation@sstaffs.gov.uk to let them know. Have the person's name, the date they passed away and the property address ready. If they lived alone, the empty home can be exempt from council tax, including for six months after probate is granted, while it stays empty and unsold.
