How we count
This page explains the numbers on our bereavement contacts list, so you can check them for yourself. The figures below are worked out from the list itself each time the page loads.
The numbers today
- 1,350 UK organisations are on the list.
- 1,309 of them are checked against the organisation's own website.
- 1,305 checked organisations show a way to tell them: a phone number, an email or an online form.
- 1,180 have a checked phone number, 765 have a checked email (123 of them a bereavement inbox), and 366 have an online form.
- Checks on the list run from 26 September 2026 to 30 September 2026. Each organisation's page shows its own date.
How we compare
We say this is the UK's largest free list of checked bereavement contacts. On 29 September 2026 we looked at the other free UK lists that show bereavement contacts to anyone, with no sign-up. The largest had 909 organisation pages. It does not list councils or housing associations. Leave those out and we still have 977 checked organisations, against their 909.
Some services say they can tell 1,000 or more organisations for you once you sign up. They do not publish the contact details, so we do not count them as lists.
What we count as one organisation
We count a company once, even if it sells many things. A brand gets its own entry only when it has its own bereavement team or contact details. For example, a bank's home insurance gets its own entry only if a different insurer handles it. Each local council counts once.
What "checked" means
We only take a number, email or form from the organisation's own website, or from GOV.UK for government services. Never from memory, a forum or another list. After we find a detail, a separate check opens the organisation's page again and looks for that exact number or email. If it is not there, we leave it out. A wrong number is worse than none.
Some organisations are on the list but not yet checked. Their page says so in small print, and they are not counted as checked above.

Keeping it right
Numbers change. We check the whole list again regularly, and every page shows the date it was last checked. The list is not complete, and it will not find every account.
